What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the IEEE Citation Generator website, citation generator, batch mode, and related pages. IEEE Citation Generator is an independent, unofficial citation formatting tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by IEEE. By using the service, you acknowledge this policy and the choices described below.

Reference Data And Lookup Inputs

The current product does not require an account and does not ask you to provide your name, school, employer, or payment details. You may enter a DOI, URL, ISBN, title, author names, publication details, or a BibTeX file.

The reference list and theme preference are stored in your browser using local storage. This lets the list survive a page refresh without creating a cloud account. Clearing the site data in your browser, using a different browser, or removing a reference changes or deletes that local copy.

Formatting and TXT, BibTeX, LaTeX, and Word export run in your browser. The reference list is not sent to IEEE Citation Generator merely to create an export file.

Metadata Providers And Public Pages

When you request a lookup, the service may send the identifier to Crossref, Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, or Open Library. When you provide a public URL, the service may retrieve that page to read public metadata and may use a DOI found in the page. Those providers and websites may process technical information, request timing, IP addresses, search terms, or URLs under their own policies.

Do not submit passwords, private links, access tokens, unpublished personal information, or other sensitive material as a lookup input. IEEE Citation Generator blocks credential-bearing URLs and private or reserved network addresses for URL lookups.

Provide And Protect The Service

Information is used to resolve metadata, format an IEEE reference, show warnings, save the local list you requested, prevent abuse, maintain security, and diagnose service failures. As of the effective date, the current product does not run Google Analytics, Google AdSense, or other advertising tags, and IEEE Citation Generator does not intentionally sell your reference list or use it to build an advertising profile.

IEEE Citation Generator does not currently provide accounts, project sync, collaboration, or a server-side reference library. If those features are added, this policy will be updated before they become available.

Current Status And Future Changes

The current site uses browser local storage for the reference list and theme preference. That browser storage is separate from advertising cookies. At the effective date, IEEE Citation Generator does not load Google Analytics, Google AdSense, or other third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

If we later introduce Google Analytics, we intend to use it for aggregate traffic measurement and configure it not to intentionally send user-entered citation content or personally identifiable information in measurement events, URL parameters, page titles, custom dimensions, or similar fields. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies or identifiers, browser and device information, approximate location, and interaction data depending on its configuration.

If we later introduce Google AdSense, ads may involve Google or its partners placing or reading cookies, using web beacons, IP-derived information, or other identifiers for ad delivery, frequency controls, measurement, and, in some cases, personalized advertising. Before activation, this policy will be updated with the actual services and purposes, and an applicable consent or privacy-choice flow will be provided where required by law or provider policy. Users can also review Google’s How Google uses data when you use our partners’ sites or apps and available ad controls.

Remove What You Control

You can remove individual references, clear the entire list, or clear IEEE Citation Generator site data in your browser. IEEE Citation Generator does not have a current account dashboard from which to delete a cloud library. External providers and infrastructure operators may retain technical request logs according to their own policies and legal obligations.

A Short Policy For A Small Product

IEEE Citation Generator uses reasonable technical safeguards for the current service, but no transmission or storage system can be guaranteed absolutely secure. We may update this policy when the product, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will show when the current version took effect.
